Cocaine trafficker caught using fake pregnancy to evade arrest

Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested a 50-year-old widow and mother of one, Mrs. Ifeoma Ezewuike, for allegedly attempting to traffic 1.3 kilograms of cocaine by using a fake pregnancy as a ploy to escape detection.

Ezewuike, the owner of a fashion business in Ago Palace Way, Okota, Lagos, was apprehended on Friday, August 22, 2025, at a bus terminal in the Jibowu, Yaba area while attempting to transport the narcotics to customers in Abuja. Following her arrest, a search of her residence yielded an additional 200 grams of cutting agent used in the production of cocaine.

“In her statement, Ezewuike claimed she inherited the criminal trade from her husband, who died two years ago, while she has been in the fashion business for 20 years,” said Femi Babafemi, NDLEA’s Director of Media and Advocacy.

In a separate operation, Babafemi reported that on August 19, NDLEA officers intercepted 90 parcels of ‘loud,’ a cannabis strain weighing 48.6 kilograms, hidden in kitchen sink cartons at a courier company in Lagos.

Furthermore, in Adamawa State, NDLEA operatives, acting on credible intelligence, raided a residence linked to notorious drug dealer Idris Garba on August 22. Garba managed to escape but his associate, Boniface Nnaji, was apprehended while attempting to flee, along with a significant haul of tramadol pills.

The agency’s ongoing operations have led to the destruction of large quantities of cannabis across multiple states. In Taraba, 7,500 kilograms of skunk were destroyed, while operations in Edo and Delta states resulted in significant seizures, highlighting the NDLEA’s commitment to combating drug trafficking throughout Nigeria.
