The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has confirmed that two people died in Sunday’s rainstorm in Kwara.
Babawale Afolabi, the command’s Public Relation Officer, said the storm which struck at Kajola, in the Oke-Ero Local Government Area of the state, killed a pregnant woman, identified simply as Funmi, and another woman known as Iya Isanlu in Boluwarin Church.
Babawale explained that the building of the church collapsed on the two women, leading to their death.
He said, “A pregnant woman called Funmi, as well as an aged woman, iya-isanlu, were killed.
“The remains of the two victims are been kept in the mortuary of the General Hospital, Omu-Aran.”
He also disclosed that over 10 persons injured by the storm were hospitalised in various hospitals.
He added, “The rainstorm also blew off rooftops in adjourning communities of Egosi-Ile and Odo-Owa, including to roof of a police station.
“It also broke electric poles and cables which plunged the communities into darkness.”
