Chief Imam of Ilorin praises legacy of Dr Yinka Ajia’s late father; Foundation to Be established in his honour

– Family appreciates community for support in difficult times

The legacy of Alhaji Yahaya Olayiwola Ajia, a revered community leader, and the father of Dr. Abdulmumin Yinka Ajia, took centre stage on Sunday, December 8, 2024, as family, friends, and well-wishers gathered for his Fidau prayer at the Ajia Sakasaka Compound on Abdulazeez Attah Road, Agaka, Ilorin.

The late Alhaji Ajia, who passed away on December 3, 2024, at the age of 80, was remembered for his remarkable contributions to the Ilorin Emirate and his enduring impact as a father, mentor, and elder.

The Fidau prayer was led by the Chief Imam of Ilorin, Sheikh Dr. Mohammed Bashir Imam Soliu, OON.

In his address, the Chief Imam reflected on the life of Alhaji Yahaya, describing him as a man of integrity, humility, and wisdom whose values should serve as an example for the community.

Speaking during the ceremony, Dr. Abdulmumin Yinka Ajia, an Associate Professor and Director of the MBA Program at Lincoln University, USA, and son of the late Alhaji Yahaya, announced the plans for the foundation.

He explained that the initiative would reflect his father’s lifelong passion for empowering others through knowledge and community development.

“We are committed to ensuring that my father’s legacy lives on through meaningful action. This foundation will focus on tackling illiteracy and fostering education, which were values he deeply cherished,” Dr. Ajia stated.

The Fidau prayer, a key Islamic ritual to seek Allah’s mercy and eternal rest for the departed, was attended by a large gathering of family members, relatives, and community members.

The event provided an emotional yet uplifting moment for the Ajia family to reflect on the enduring influence of their patriarch.

Dr. Ajia expressed his family’s heartfelt appreciation to the Ilorin community for their support during this difficult time.

“Your prayers, presence, and kind words have been a source of strength for us. We are grateful for the solidarity shown by everyone,” he said.

The gathering also offered an opportunity for attendees to celebrate Alhaji Yahaya’s life as a pillar of the Ilorin Emirate.

Many shared fond memories and highlighted his contributions to the community, describing him as a guiding light whose values and teachings will continue to inspire future generations.
