Chelsea has confirmed that Armando Broja will spend the rest of the season on the sidelines after sustaining an ACL injury in his right knee.
Broja, 21, left the pitch on a stretcher last Sunday during the first half of Chelsea’s mid-season friendly with Aston Villa following a collision with Villa defender Ezri Konsa.
A club statement on Wednesday has now confirmed the news that Broja will watch from the stands for the rest of the season.
It said: “Scan results have unfortunately confirmed an anterior cruciate ligament rupture and that surgery will be required.
“Following the operation, Armando will work closely with the club’s medical department during his rehabilitation and is expected to miss the remainder of the 2022-23 campaign.”
Broja has one goal and an assist from 12 league appearances so far this season.
Reacting to the news, Broja expressed his sadness over the injury.
“Devastated to be ending 2022 in this way.
It’s been difficult to process everything over the past few days, but I am determined to come back even stronger and better than before.
Everyone has there own journey to the top, this is just a minor setback for the good things to come in the future
Thank you to everyone who has sent messages of support. It means a lot. I appreciate them all dis
I will be back soon 🙏🏻& AB 💙”
