The Governor, Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Godwin Emefiele, has said that the Nigerian students seeking education in foreign countries are the reason for the fall in naira.
The CBN boss made this revelation at the 57th Annual Bankers Dinner, which was organised by the Chartered institute of Bankers Nigeria (CIBN), in Lagos State.
The annual dinner of bankers had the theme, “Radical Responses to Abnormal Episodes: Time for Innovative decision-making”.
Emefiele has blamed the fall in the country’s currency on the tremendous rise in the issuance of visa to Nigerians by the United Kingdom in 2022.
The Governor of the apex bank explained that the number of students visas issued to Nigerian citizens by the United Kingdom, UK increased from about 8,000 in 2020 to about 66,000 this year.
