CAF Confederation Cup: Rivers, Plateau United eye redemption against Libyan teams

head of the first leg of the CAF Confederations Cup additional playoff round, the two Nigerian clubs which remain at the continental campaign will be hoping to redeem their images when they take on their respective opponents in Nigeria on Wednesday.

While Nigeria league Champions Rivers United will be facing El Nasr Benghazi of Libya, Plateau United would also be playing host to another Libyan team Al-Akhdar.

Recall that both Rivers and Plateau United dropped from the CAF Champions League to the Confederation Cup after their failure to secure passage to the group stage of the highest inter-club competition on the continent.

Rivers United were beaten by the Champions League defending Champions, Wydad Casablanca of Morroco 7-2 on aggregate in their final round of play off game while Plateau United were also edged out by Esperance de Tunis on aggregate score of 2-2.

Rivers will host their opponents at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium at 2pm and Plateau State owned team will be trading tackles at the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abuja at 4pm.

Both Nigerian teams will be hoping to reach the group stage of the tournament and even beyond in an effort to change the narrative of the dwindling performance of Nigerian teams at the continental outings.

It would recalled that Both Kwara United and Remo Stars failed to make it to the group stage of the CAF Confederation Cup recently.

The second leg of the matches will be played on November 9 at the Libyan teams respective home grounds.
