Bye-election: INEC assures public of security agencies’ commitment to combat vote buying in Ogun

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Ogun has expressed confidence that security agencies will take decisive action against anyone involved in vote buying and other electoral malpractices.

This statement was made in the context of the recent by-elections, including the Remo Federal Constituency, part of a wider electoral exercise across 12 states.

Saseyi Feyijimi, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Ogun, addressed alleged incidents of vote buying during an interview with newsmen in Sagamu.

“A viral video being circulated displayed where the officials and the faithful were arrested with huge sums of cash allegedly meant for rigging in the by-elections into the Remo Federal Constituency,” she stated.

Feyijimi assured the public of the integrity of the electoral process, saying, “INEC is sure that the security agencies will do the needful; as soon as I lay my hands on the official report, I will also inform the National Headquarters.”

Additionally, she commended the voters for their early turnout and orderly participation, affirming INEC’s unwavering commitment to conducting elections in a fair and transparent manner.

The by-election was held to fill the seat left vacant by the late Adewunmi Onanuga, former Deputy Chief Whip of the House of Representatives, who passed away on January 15 after a brief illness.
