Buhari Presides Over Council of State Meeting

The Nigerian President, Muhammadu Buhari presides over a meeting of the Council of State at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The meeting which commenced at 10 am saw the attendance of the Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo; the Secretary to the Government of the Federation Boss Mustapha, Boss Mustapha; National Security Adviser, Babagana Monguno and the Chief of Staff to the President, Prof. Ibrahim Gambari.

In attendance are also former heads of state, Abdusalami Abubakar, Goodluck Jonathan, and Yakubu Gowon, while others are attending the meeting virtually from their various locations.

State governors in attendance are Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi State, Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State, Bello Matawalle of Zamfara State, Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna state and Hope Uzodinma of Imo State;  among others. Other governors are attending the meeting virtually from their various locations.

Before the start of the meeting, a minute silence was observed in honor of the former head of Interim Government, Ernest Shonekan, who died on January 11, 2022.

This will be the fourth time the president presides over the meeting. The first one was held on October 21, 2015, the second took place September 7, 2016, while the third was held virtually in August of 2020.

Matters discussed at the Thursday’s meeting have not been made public yet. However, it is expected that issues concerning the economy and insecurity will form part of the proceeding.
