Buhari bids Senegal Envoy farewell, congratulates country on AFCON victory

President Muhammadu Buhari has urged Senegal’s departing Ambassador, Babacar Ndiaye, to extend Nigeria’s congratulations to President Macky Sall on the Teranga Lions’ win at the recently completed AFCON.

Senegal won the Africa Cup of Nations final 4-2 on penalties after the teams couldn’t be separated after 120 minutes of scoreless play.

On Thursday, at a farewell audience with Ndiaye at State House in Abuja, Buhari joked, “I’m delivering the congratulations unwillingly, because our own country were trounced in the tournament.”

He congratulated the ambassador on a successful nearly four-year term of duty in Nigeria, noting that “our friendship is quite solid.” I commend your President for his efforts in keeping the country united.

“Could you please extend my best wishes to him”

President Buhari also wished the departed Ambassador well on his new assignment.

Ndiaye described Nigeria as a “second home” for him, having originally served in the consular division of his Embassy before returning as Ambassador for over four years.

“Thank you for making my term a success. “I’ll always remember Nigeria fondly,” he remarked.
