Relatives of the abducted students from Federal University Gusau in Zamfara State have scheduled a massive protest for October 1, 2023, to demand the immediate rescue of their daughters and sisters.

Hafsat, a final-year student at the university and the sister of one of the kidnapped students, confirmed this during an interview with Theinformant247 on Friday.

She disclosed that the kidnappers had not made any contact with the affected families, leaving them in the dark regarding the whereabouts of the kidnapped students.

Hafsat stated, “Yes, approximately 20 of them are still in captivity. Following the trending hashtag on Nigerian Twitter earlier this week, we have decided to organize a peaceful protest during the October 1st celebration in select Northern states and the federal capital city.”

She explained that the protest would commence in Abuja and Kaduna before involving concerned residents from other Northern cities.

Earlier in the week, Theinformant247 reported on the terrorist abduction of several students from the university. Gunmen had stormed the students’ residence in Sabon-Gida, known as Nazeer Sabon-Gida, and abducted a number of female students. The exact count remained uncertain at the time of the report.

The Nigerian Army subsequently announced the rescue of six of the abducted students following a confrontation with the terrorists. However, the state police command spokesman, Yezid Abubakar, confirmed that not all of the kidnapped students were freed by the Army.

A source within the university’s students’ union revealed on Monday that approximately 24 students from the university remained in captivity at the hands of terrorists.
