Breaking: Again, man dies in Kwara police custody after alleged torture
A 35-year-old man, Jimoh AbdulQodir Tunji, has reportedly died after alleged torture by operatives of the Kwara State Police Command.
The suspect, a poultry farmer, was arrested on Friday after his employer filed a petition with the police over an unpaid debt owed by the deceased.
Jimoh was said to have died at midnight.
The victim’s family, speaking with The Informant247, stated that the police claimed the suspect hanged himself while being detained at the SIB unit of the police headquarters.
However, they insisted that, based on what they observed, the police may have tortured him to death.
When contacted, the police spokesperson, Ejire Adeyemi said she was unaware of the incident but promised to follow up.
This is the latest case of alleged police killings in Kwara State.
In the past three months, the police in the state have been implicated in the deaths of at least two people.
Details to follow.
