Bobrisky arrested while attempting to flee to Benin republic – VeryDarkMan claims

In a shocking development, social media activist Martins Ortse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has alleged that renowned Nigerian crossdresser Idris Okuneye, better known as Bobrisky, was arrested by security officials at the Seme border on Monday.

According to VeryDarkMan, Bobrisky was apprehended while attempting to flee Nigeria for Benin Republic in an effort to avoid an ongoing investigative hearing initiated by the House of Representatives.

The hearing was reportedly linked to an audio recording released by VDM, in which Bobrisky allegedly confessed to bribing officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) with N15 million.

Bobrisky also allegedly boasted about evading a six-month jail sentence at Kirikiri prison through the influence of a powerful godfather.

VDM took to Instagram to share the arrest details, stating: “Bobrisky has been arrested this morning at the Seme border while trying to enter Benin Republic to escape the current investigation by the House of Representatives. He is allegedly being held by Nigerian immigration.”

The controversial figure, Bobrisky, recently came under fire after failing to attend the House of Representatives’ investigative hearing, citing health issues as the reason for his absence.

Backstory: Bobrisky absent as House of Reps question EFCC, NCoS, VeryDarkMan on allegations

On 30th of September, the House of Representatives questioned officials from the EFCC and the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) regarding allegations that the two agencies were bribed by Bobrisky following his conviction in April.

The crossdresser had been sentenced to six months in prison by the Federal High Court in Lagos for abusing the naira.

During the hearing, the EFCC refuted claims that Bobrisky paid N15 million to have money laundering charges dropped, while the NCoS denied accusations that Bobrisky had not served his jail term at Kirikiri Maximum Correctional Centre, as widely alleged.

Instead, the NCoS maintained that he served his sentence in the correctional facility and not in a private apartment.

Bobrisky was convicted on April 5, 2024, and sentenced to six months in prison.

He regained his freedom on August 5, 2024, amidst public allegations that he had received special treatment while in custody due to his celebrity status.

VeryDarkMan, who initially hesitated to testify unless Bobrisky was produced, eventually agreed to speak after persuasion from committee members and his lawyer, Deji Adeyanju. During the hearing, VDM explained that his audio recording came from a source who had lent Bobrisky N4 million.

He further claimed that Bobrisky had bragged about having a powerful godfather who helped him evade punishment.

“Bobrisky claimed he had a godfather. I don’t know if that godfather is here, so I will present my evidence one at a time as I have more audio recordings,” VDM told the investigative panel.

In contrast, Bobrisky’s lawyer, Avwerosuoghene Omuvwie, informed the House that his client’s failure to attend the hearing was due to illness.

However, this explanation was not well received by the committee, which demanded medical documentation to back the claim.

Committee member Patrick Umoh (PDP, Akwa Ibom) warned that the panel would not tolerate future excuses, stating, “We hope that the next time we invite him, he will be well.”
