The followers of Kano cleric, Sheikh Abduljabbar Kabara, who was sentenced to death for blasphemy, have alleged gang up against an appeal filed in respect of his case.
Kabara’s followers, while addressing a press conference at the NUJ press centre in Kano on Sunday, alleged that those behind the gang-up were working against efforts expended on getting justice for the cleric in the ongoing appeal against his death sentence.
Ibrahim Warure, one of the followers, said some clerics responsible for Kabara’s ordeal had been making efforts to disrupt the appeal filed in respect of his case.
The Informant247 earlier reported that a Sharia Court in Kano sentenced Kabara to death by hanging, prompting his followers to file an appeal before a High Court of Justice.
Court sentences Kano Cleric, Abduljabar Nasiru Kabara, to death by hanging for blasphemy
A Kano-based Islamic cleric, Sheikh Abduljabar Nasiru Kabara, has been sentenced to death by a Kano Shari’a Court over blasphemy.
The Magistrate found Sheik Kabara guilty on all charges filed against him by the state government, where he was accused of making unremarkable statements against the prophet Muhammad.
The defendant, in adopting his final written addresses dated and filed Sept.20, urged the court to dismiss the case filed by the Kano State Government against him and order the state to apologise to him.
But the prosecution counsel, Mamman Lawan-Yusufari, SAN, closed the case after four witnesses testified while the defendant presented one witness and tendered 24 books and memory card evidence to prove his case.
The defendant presented himself as a lone witness.
