BBYDI tasks Gov AbdulRazaq on youth empowerment

A non-governmental organization, Brain Builders Youth Development Initiative (BBYDI), has urged the Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, to create a platform for the youth to excel.

The Executive Director of the NGO, Abideen Opeyemi Olasupo, in a statement issued on Wednesday in Ilorin, the Kwara state capital, stated that “every state must invest in its youth and leverage the opportunities they create for growth”.

He said, “The peaceful protests were coordinated across different states in the country with a uniform demand to end police brutality and reform the Nigerian Police Force. As we saw with #EndSARS protests, young people can lead, organize, innovate and contribute to nation-building. In rebuilding post-COVID-19 era, young people must be engaged in sustainable ways.

“Governor AbdulRazaq AbdulRahman of Kwara State has demonstrated his trust in youths by engaging young people in his government and allowing them to take up important roles in his administration.

“Nonetheless, we call on the governor to be deliberate about youth development and empowerment in the post-COVID-19 period.”

‘Increase budgetary allocation to education, health’

Meanwhile, Olasupo also called on the state government to scale up its budgetary allocation to the education and health sectors.

“We also demand that the budgetary allocations for health, education and youth development be increased to match our current realities. We believe that these sectors are critical to the development of the state and its quest to attain sustainability,” He said.
