Bauchi govt opens newly constructed general hospital

The Bauchi State Government, on Wednesday, inaugurated a newly constructed general hospital worth N330 million in Dambam Local Government Area of the state.

The Chairman, Board of Trustees of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Sen. Walid Jibrin, inaugurated the project.

Gov. Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State, at the inauguration ceremony in Dambam, said that the edifice has 10 housing units for health workers, especially doctors.

He added that the state government had in 2020, conducted a health summit where State of Emergency was declared on the health sector due to its deteriorating state.

He said that government since then had executed projects and programmes that have direct bearing on the lives of the people.

The governor identified the projects as; construction of roads in both urban and rural areas of the state, provision of water and rehabilitation of infrastructure in education and health sectors, among others.

He noted that “health is wealth; we have, therefore, given the sector the priority it deserves.

“We are gathered here today to witness the commissioning of the General Hospital, Dambam, as one of the attestations of our commitment of using small resources to do so much at the same time.

“Since we came onboard, we partnered with Federal Government and renovated 192 functioning healthcare facilities across the state.”

Mohammed noted that the Nigeria State Health Investment Project (NSHIP) hospitals have medical personnel, equipment and an independent drug revolving fund that ensured that drugs were accessible to the common man at affordable prices.

He said the NSHIP also renovated about 12 hospitals, while UNICEF renovated and built 107 primary healthcare centres across the state.

The governor gave the total number of primary healthcare centres renovated by the state government in two and a half years in the state as 313.

A resident of Dambam, Hajiya Aisha Ismaila, told NAN on the sideline of the event, that they used to travel as far as Azare, the headquarters of Katagum and Ningi local government areas to take care of their serious ailments.

She said that with the construction of the general hospital, those ailments would be handled by the medical personnel in the hospital.

She expressed gratitude to the governor for improving the health of the people of the area.
