Barcelona were the best side on Sunday night as the Blaugranas handed Xavi Hernandez his first trophy as the Manager of the team after defeating their arch rival 3-1 in the final of the Spanish super cup.
The final game which was played in the Saudi Arabia capital, Riyadh saw Barca sensation, Gavi stealing the show by scoring one goal and providing assists for two others important goals scored by his team.
While Gavi would open the scoreline by netting from a pass from Robert Lewandowski, both of them will combine to double their lead before the break when Lewandowski scored the second goal in the dot of the first half.
The Catalans later finished up the business at the King Fahd Stadium when Pedri scored their third goal after receiving a pass from the 18-year-old Gavi to further push them to a safer side of the match .
Nothing was left for Madrid to pick from the game with their only consolation coming from Karim Benzema in the last minute of the encounter.
It was Barca’s first major trophy since lifting the Copa del Rey in April 2021 with Xavi era now seems to be taking shape also in the wake of their leadership positions on the La Liga log.
Barca have now won the Supercopa for a record-extending 14th time while Madird has 12 of the trophy to their credit.
