Bandits attack: Ilesha Baruba Emirate cancels Kara market day
Following a recent attack by gunmen suspected to be bandits, claiming lives of innocent citizens and throwing the community in mourning mood, the Ilesha Baruba Emirate Council in Baruten Local Government Area of Kwara State has announced the cancellation of the popular Kara Market day, originally scheduled to hold on Thursday, April 24, 2025 (today).
The decision comes after a bandit attack on Monday, 20th April, 2025, which is a market day in the community. The attack caused panic, left some casualties and disrupted normal activities in the community.
Kara Market, known as one of the largest cattle markets in the region, usually draws traders and buyers from within and outside Baruten Local Government Area. It serves as a major hub for cattle trade, livestock products, and other economic activities.
Due to security concerns and the need to protect lives and property, the Emirate decided to suspend the market for now. Security in the area has since been increased, and authorities are working to prevent further attacks.
