Fatal accident claims 10 lives in Kwara

A road accident involving 38 persons at Lala/Leke area of the old Lagos-Abeokuta road, Ogun State, claimed six lives.

It was gathered that the fatal crash occurred on Monday at about 2:10pm, injuring 12 other passengers.

According to a report, It was learnt that the accident involved a Mitsubishi Canter vehicle with registration number, XS595JJJ; a Mazda bus E200 marked, LSR266YD and another Mazda bus with the number plate, LND01YE.

The spokesperson in Ogun sector command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Florence Okpe, said the driver of the Mitsubishi canter, engaged in wrong turning while trying to negotiate a U-turn.

She confirmed that the driver while turning, was said to have failed to observe the road and the Mazda buses lost control and crashed into it.

She said, “The suspected causes of the multiple crashes were excessive speed, dangerous driving and loss of control due to wrong turning.”

Okpe explained that the accident involved 20 male adults, 13 female adults, three male children and two female children.

“A total of 6 deaths were recorded from the crash (04 male adults, 01 male child, and 01 female child),” she added, saying that the injured victims were rescued to State Hospital, Abeokuta, while the corpses were deposited at the morgue of the same hospital,” she explained.
