…advises corps’ spokesperson to embrace refresher PR course

The Association of Kwara Online Media Practitioners (ASKOMP) has frowned at the assault, intimidation and arrest of its Chairman, Salihu Shola Taofeek.

The chairman alongside the Editor of The Informant247, Ayatullahi Salihu and Eyitanwa Lawal of Sobi FM was assaulted and arrested by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).

The association’s Secretary, Oyewale Oyelola, Financial Secretary, Oyewale Oyelola, Financial Secretary, Nafiu Toyin Abdulqadir and Dele Obaseesin of Latest News, made this revelation at a briefing held at the NUJ Press Centre, Ilorin on Sunday.

The association of online media organizations described the rejoinder made public on Saturday by Kwara State spokesperson of the NSCDC as products of insincerity, lies, contradictions which was aimed at hiding the unprofessional manners of their officers from the people.

The association said the 3 journalists were responding to a call for justice for a relation who was in the custody of the corps.

It added that its chairman and the 2 other journalists were at the station to gather detailed information about the issue.

The officers of the corps torture, humiliated, harassed and exposed the innocent journalists to all manners of inhuman treatment.

The journalists were kept in the cell reportedly reserved for suspected criminals.

They were kept in detention for more than 7 hours — 4 hours was spent behind the counter and 3 hours spent in the cell).

They were denied right to express themselves for these hours.

The association stood against what it described as ‘unprovoked aggression” against innocent journalists.

While passing remarks on the spokesperson of the corps, the online media practitioners said: ”It’s however more nauseating the unprofessional conduct of Mr. Ayeni Olasunkanmi, the public relations of the Corps, who is notoriously for his unavailability, quackery, falsehood and lacking in basic art and act of public relations.

”His watery, unprofessional, error laden multiple reaction to the incident is a clear testament to why the public perception and rating of the Kwara command is at its embarrassingly lowest ebb ever.

”One wouldn’t be out of place to recommend him to enroll for basic public relations courses, where he’ll be schooled on the language usage and conduct of elementary public relations personnel, all of which he obviously lacks.

”We thus with this press conference declare 100% solidarity with our members and indeed scores of hapless Kwarans, who have started coming out to confirm similar treatment from the unprofessional men of the NSCDC Kwara command.
