A Magistrate court in Offa, Kwara State, has ordered the Transition Implementation Committee Chairman (TIC) of Offa Local Government Area, Honourable Jare Olatundun, to pay the council’s five million naira inherited debt.
Magistrate Abdullazeez Gambari, who presided over the matter, convicted the TIC chairman following his failure to obey the court order by offsetting the debt his council is indebted to an Offa born contractor, Engineer Agboworin Orimadegun.
Magistrate Gambari however ordered that Olatundun should pay up the money within seven days.
The Magistrate said Olatundun may face the wrath of law if he fails to do the needful over the debt before the next adjourned date.
Earlier, Olatundun’s counsel, Barrister B.L Ijaya, had pleaded with the court to be merciful, promising that his client will show remorse.
On his part, Orimadegun’s counsel, Barrister Sharafadeen Ibrahim, informed the court that his client is not after the council boss conviction but the payment of his money.
The court however adjourned the suit to Monday for judgement adding that the defendant must settle with the contractor before then.
