Applicant appears in court over alleged sale of firearms
One applicant, Yahaya Abdulrasheed, appeared before an Upper Area Court, Karu, Abuja on Wednesday over alleged sale of firearms to notorious criminals.
The defendant has been charged by the police with aiding, criminal conspiracy and abetment.
Mr Olanrewaju Osho, who’s the Prosecution Counsel, informed the court that Abdulrasheed aided and abetted Ado Graguzai and Raymond with two other persons who involved themselves in the sale of firearms to notorious criminals.
Osho added that the investigation of the police has indicated that the firearms were made use for robbery in dark spots in the FCT.
When the matter was read to the defendant, he pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The prosecutor also admitted that the matter was brought to the awareness of the Police Force Intelligence Bureau by the Defence Intelligence Agency.
He added that the offence, was in contravention of the provisions of sections 97 and 85 of the penal Code.
Malam Hassan Mohammed, who presided over the case gave the defendants the sum of N200,000 bail with two sureties each in like sum.
The judge also directed that the sureties must be living within court’s jurisdiction and their addresses subjected to the verification of a court officer.
He has therefore adjourned the matter until November 14 for further hearing.
