Security agents, on Saturday, fired several rounds of tear gas at delegates as well as officials and observers finding their way into the venue of the All Progressives Congress national convention.
The Informant247 Nigeria News had earlier reported that all six persons vying for the position of the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress have stepped down from the contest to support President Muhammadu Buhari’s candidate, Abdullahi Adamu.
It was observed that at the convention ground, there are no fewer than 1000 operatives combine soldiers, policemen, men of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, and other paramilitary operatives from the Federal Road Safety Commission, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, and the Nigeria Immigration Service deployed to ensure decorum at the venue.
The operatives were seen wielding whips, tear gas canisters, and stun guns to control the crowd.
Members break entrance
Also, members of the party were seen pushing down the demarcated entrance in attempts to force their way into the convention ground.
After several attempts, the members eventually fell the demarcation to gain entrance and entered the convention ground, thereby boycotting the major entrances serving as checkpoints.
Security operatives meanwhile swung into action, by preventing members from going in through this point and returning the demarcation to its former position.
