Any government that can’t protect lives, properties has failed – Wike
Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers state has declared any government that is not able to protect the lives and properties of its citizens as one that has failed in its responsibility and has no business at the corridor of governance.
He spoke on Thursday at the government house in Jalingo, Taraba state during an interactive session with delegates and stakeholders of People’s Democratic Party, PDP.
He said that he would have resigned for failing to tackle the security challenges facing the country if he was President Muhammadu Buhari.
The presidential aspirant said, “If I were President Buhari, I would have addressed Nigerians that I’ve tried my best but my best isn’t good enough therefore I’m resigning.
“Any government that cannot protect the lives and properties of its citizens has no business in government. It is unfortunate that no part of Nigeria is secure today.”
“Each time there’s a bomb blast or killings, you will hear a breaking news that Buhari is meeting with Service Chiefs. That is wrong.
“The breaking news Nigerians want to hear is that bandits have been eliminated. Buhari should lead from the front by being the Service Chiefs himself.”
Wike also added that the country needs a serious and committed leader that is truthful and who can enable the needed change the people of Nigeria are clamoring for.
He analyzed the significance of state policing in the war against insecurity.
In his words, ”State Police is imperative to tackling insecurity. It is very key.
“It is only those who understand the terrain of a place that can effectively police the area. Besides it will bring job opportunities to our teeming youths.”
Wike further noted that if he has the opportunity to lead the country as a president of the country, he has the necessary qualities and acumen to tackle insecurity headlong.
He informed the delegates that if given the party ticket, they can put their minds at rest.
Governor Darius Ishaku of Taraba State who also spoke, said the legality of state police is long over due and must be achieved for the country to be secure.
He expressed wonder as to why the National Assembly did not actively agitate the cause of State Police because of its significance in the war against insecurity.
He advised the PDP delegates to vote wisely in the forthcoming party primaries by choosing candidates that have ability to extend dividends of democracy to all and sundry.
