Following the speculations of the impeachment, the Ondo State House of Assembly has directed its Clark, Benjamin Jaiyeola, to formally write the Deputy Governor of the state, Hon. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, over the allegations of gross misconduct levelled against him.
The petition, signed by nine out of 26 members of the House, was read during the plenary presided over by the Speaker, Olamide Oladiji, on Wednesday.
Ondo deputy governor faces impeachment over alleged gross misconduct
The embattled Deputy Governor of Ondo State, Hon Lucky Aiyedatiwa, may soon face impeachment by the state House of Assembly following allegations of gross misconduct.
A reliable source has disclosed that some lawmakers have already signed an impeachment notice against the deputy governor.
However, this development follows contradictory statements from key figures in the Assembly.
The Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Rt Hon Olamide Oladiji, had recently dismissed rumours of an impeachment plot, stating that there was no such plan.
The Majority Leader of the Assembly, Mr Oluwole Ogunmolasuyi, also urged the public to ignore the rumour and emphasised that the Assembly focuses on matters that will bring development to the state.
The controversy surrounding the deputy governor escalated when his resignation letter surfaced on social media shortly after removing his aides.
In response, Aiyedatiwa denied resigning from his position, emphasising his loyalty to the Governor and commitment to fulfilling his elected term.
Aiyedatiwa’s aides also refuted allegations of their boss’s vehicle purchase while serving as the deputy governor, stating that these were mere attempts to discredit him.
