All you need to know as 72 countries set UK alight for Commonwealth Games

Action will begin today in the 21st edition of the Commonwealth games also known as British Empire Games.

The multi-sport event, which is holding at Birmingham,United Kingdom will see over 5,000 athletes from over 72 nations and territories setting out themselves for the ultimate prize.

It’s going to be a 12 days of sporting actions laced with effervescent athletes that are keen to make their different countries proud.

On Thursday night, the opening ceremony of the games held at the Alexander stadium with Prince Charles of declaring declaring it open and the Pakistani Rights Activist, Malala Yousafzai welcoming all the Athletes and officials.

With its motto of ‘Game for everyone’, a total number of 20 sports are expected to be staged across 15 centres.

It’s the third time United Kingdom will be hosting the event which debuted in 1930. It formerly hosted London 1934 and Manchester 2002.

The idea of the Commonwealth games which holds quadrennially and often referred to as friendly games was majorly inspired by the Melville Marks Robinson, Canadian journalist and sports executive, also known as M. M. Robinson and Bobby Robinson.

It is, by extension to further entrench the relationship between all the Commonwealth Nations under the auspices of the United Kingdom
