Alagbado Bridge: Community lauds state govt., urges earlier commencement of work on channelling and drainage

The residents of Alagbado community and its environs in Ilorin South Local Government of Kwara state has applauded the State Governor, Dr. Abdulfatah Ahmed over the ongoing reconstruction of the collapsed Alagbado bridge which links the Sobi Specialist Hospital and the community with the city metropolis.

While speaking with The Informant247 correspondent yesterday, a resident, Mall. Ismaila Sabura said “We appreciate the selfless efforts of the state government for the work done so far, they have really done a very good job. We appeal to the government to do the early drainage and channelling of the water way”

Another Community member, Alhaji Abdulfatah Eleku, expressed excitement over the gesture by the Governor, saying “We appreciate Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed over the work done on the bridge and the quality of materials used.”

He further appeals to the State Governor to as a matter of urgency start work on the drainage and channelling.

“He (Governor) came here some few days ago to inspect the work done so far and on the request of the community directed the channeling and drainage of waterpaths, and even we heard it has been approved. So we urge early commencement because once the rain starts, the flood coming from Oloje would be too much for the bridge to Contend.” -he said

Alhaja Kuburat Alausa, one of the Community women leader, appealed to the Government to start work on the drainage and chanelling before the raining season as if ignored, would shortens the bridge life span.

Speaking on behalf of the people, the Chairman of Alagbado community and its environs, Mall. Ibrahim Abdullahi who couldn’t hide his excitement over the work done so far by the Government said that the collapsed bridge which is handled by KWARMA before now was a dead trap and has caused a lot of hardship not only to people of the community but the state at large.

Addressing Journalists at the scene, Mall. Abdullahi noted that the quality of materials deployed for the construction is very commendable adding that the bridge, when completed, will attract and expand development to that part of the community and equally boost the economy of the area which has long collapsed with the bridge.

He said, “we appreciate the Government over their listening hear. After several cries from the people of the community over re-construction of the bridge, the Government approved it and work is almost done.”

While reacting to questions on the residents’ request for the drainage and chanelling of the waterpaths, he confirmed that the Governor has promised to start work on it and urged the state government to hasten work on it before raining season.
