Alaafin: I’m not responsible for deaths of monarchs in Oyo, Makinde replies critics
Governor of Oyo state, Seyi Makinde, Sunday, responded to criticism that his tenure has ceaselessly continued to witness the deaths of prominent monarchs in the state.
Seyi Makinde said he is not responsible for the deaths of the three foremost monarchs in the state.
He made a vow that the state will ensure that the late Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III, receives suitable and befitting burial.
The Governor made this revelation while communicating the family members of the late monarch and the Oyomesi, as he paid them condolence visit at the palace of the departed monarch.
Makinde, who jokingly reacted to social media rumor, said that he should not be held responsible for the deaths of foremost monarchs in the state.
Recall that before the recent demise of the Alaafin, the Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Jimoh Oyewumi had died on December 12, 2021 while Olubadan Saliu Adetunji died on January 2, 2022.
The Governor identified that the departed monarchs were ripe in age and have contributed immensely to the development of the people and the state.
He said: “No matter how old the Alaafin was, we would not have wanted him to join his ancestors. When he ascended the throne of his forefathers, I was very young. But because of the way Kabiyesi was to us, we would have loved to have him with us forever if it was possible.”
“For that, we are sad but we are also happy because Kabiyesi lived long on the throne of his forefathers”
“Secondly, since we heard about the news of his d3ath, throughout yesterday, I received calls from the Presidency and a lot of my colleagues. Sultan of Sokoto and Emir of Kano have called me personally.”
