The Akogun Chieftaincy Family of Oke-Ode, Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State, has officially nominated the Director of Corporate Affairs at the University of Ilorin, Mr. AbdulGaniyu Kunle Akogun, as the next Akogun of Oke-Odeland.

This nomination, made public during the family’s 2025 Annual Reunion/General Meeting held on Sunday, June 8, in Oke-Ode, follows the demise of the 6th Akogun, the late Chief AbdulRauf Tunde Akogun, who passed away on January 10, 2024. The family noted that Mr. Akogun’s nomination is awaiting formal ratification once a new Elesa of Oke-Ode is installed.

In a statement released by the Secretary of the Akogun Chieftaincy Family Forum (ACFF), Mr. Ismail Akogun, the Chairman of the Forum and Chief Imam of Ifelodun Pako Central Mosque in Amukoko, Lagos, prayed for Almighty Allah to bless Oke-Ode with a progressive, development-minded Elesa in due course. He also offered prayers for peace and prosperity in the community.

The Akogun Chieftaincy title, rooted in the Akogun Boogun Compound since the town’s settlement at the historic Ori Oke, has seen six successive traditional holders, all revered for their contributions to Oke-Ode’s social, cultural, and security advancement. These include: Chiefs Awodokun, Sikako, Ayilara, Salami, Yusuf, and AbdulRauf Akogun.

The Akogun-designate, Mr. AbdulGaniyu Kunle Akogun, is widely respected as a committed community development advocate and experienced media professional.

He has significantly elevated the profile of Oke-Ode through his public relations work and service in key positions, including as National PRO of the Oke-Ode Community, past National Publicity Secretary of the Igbomina Professionals Association (IPA), and Vice Chairman of the Igbomina-Ekiti Muslims Forum (IEMF).

Through his role at the University of Ilorin, Mr. Akogun has facilitated the admission of numerous Oke-Ode youths and consistently advanced initiatives for the town’s development, reinforcing his suitability for the revered traditional role.
