Akadi no longer our chariman, Kwara ADC warns against impersonation
The Kwara State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has dismissed claims by its immediate past chairman, Adebayo S. Akadi, that he remains the party’s chairman in the state, describing the assertion as false, misleading and an act of impersonation.
In a statement issued on Sunday by the party’s State Publicity Secretary, Dr. Kabir Abubakar Basambo, the ADC said Akadi ceased to be chairman following the expiration of the tenure of the former State Executive Committee.
According to the statement, the tenure of the committee ended on May 14, 2026. It added that the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC), at its 101st meeting, approved the constitution of caretaker committees at the zonal, state, local government and ward levels with immediate effect.
The party said the Kwara State Caretaker Committee, headed by Rt. Hon. Babatunde Mohammed, remains the only constitutionally recognised body authorised to act on behalf of the ADC in the state.
“The statement credited to the immediate past State Chairman, Adebayo S. Akadi, claiming to remain Chairman of ADC Kwara is false, misleading and an act of impersonation,” the statement said.
The party urged members of the public, party supporters, media organisations and other stakeholders to disregard any statements, actions or meetings allegedly conducted by Akadi in the name of ADC Kwara, insisting that he no longer occupies any position within the party’s leadership structure in the state.
Basambo stated that the party would not tolerate attempts to mislead the public or usurp its leadership, stressing that the ADC remains focused on strengthening its structures and repositioning itself ahead of the 2027 general elections.
