Airtel network mast gutted by fire in Kwara
A fire incident on Monday at Airtel network mast 614 in the Osin-Okete area of Ilorin West Local Government Area, Kwara State, had raised urgent concerns among local residents in the state.
The fire occurred around 1:27 pm, prompting an immediate response from the state fire service.
According to Hassan Adekunle, the spokesman for the fire service, crews arrived at the site and commenced emergency operations without delay. “Upon arrival, firefighters found the network mast ablaze,” he reported.
Although a generator at the site was damaged, Adekunle noted, “The swift and coordinated actions of the fire crew significantly limited further damage to the mast and nearby equipment.”
Firefighting efforts successfully contained the fire by 14:04 hours. Preliminary investigations are currently in progress to ascertain the cause of the fire, with more information to be released following a thorough inquiry.
Prince Falade John Olumuyiwa, the Director of the Kwara State Fire Service, commended the prompt response of the firefighters, while urging the public and facility managers to prioritize proper electrical and fuel safety measures and to report emergencies immediately to help minimize risks and damages.
