Another match-fixing scandal is rocking Nigeria third tier league, the Nationwide League One, NLO just less than a week after two clubs from Kaduna State were sanctioned for compromising their match.
The latest development is coming as the NLO Secretariat has now placed the match between Hypebuzz FC and Beautiful Tour FC both of Federal Capital Territory, FCT under investigation over possible compromise.
The match in ‘Group H2A” saw Hypebuzz FC thrash Beautiful Tour 6-1 to go top of the group on the last day of the group matches.
The score line, which ensured that the Hypebuzz FC topped the group with same points as Kings FC and Police Machine FC, (13 points) has enlisted the attention of the league organisers who have threatened to sanction both clubs if they are found culpable
“The Nationwide League One Secretariat hereby wish to draw your attention to the above listed league match played on 15th May 2023 in Bwari Stadium.
“The Nationwide League One Secretariat has placed the match under review, this was due to unusual high number of goals scored in the match being the last match of the group.
“The Nigeria Football Federation Technical department will study the full 90 minutes to detect if there are any elements of compromise.
“This decision shall be communicated to Nigeria Football Federation for further sanctions,” NLO Secretariat said in a statement on Monday
It could be recalled that two clubs from Kaduna State, ABU Workers FC and Ambassadors FC were last week found guilty of match fixing.
While both clubs were fined ₦500, 000 each, ABU Workers FC coaches and players who were involved in the matchday list were banned for two years from football related activities
