Senator Godswill Akpabio, the Nigerian Senate President, has arrived in Ivory Coast for solidarity support to the Super Eagles of Nigeria as they contend for their fourth Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) title.
The Senate President led a 10-man Senate delegation to Ivory Coast to cheer up the Super Eagles. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is expected to monitor the team’s progress virtually.
According to Soccernet, Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu left Nigeria for the Ivory Coast early in the morning. They arrived successfully in the French-speaking country around 3 pm local time.
Also on the entourage are top members of the Senate, including former Senate President Ahmad Lawal, Senator representing Kwara Central Senatorial District, Mustapha Saliu, Senator Solomon Lalung and Senator Ned Nwoko.
Nigeria will tackle Angola in the first AFCON 2023 quarter-final tie on Friday. The three-time AFCON winners will tackle Angola on Friday, February 2, at the 33,000-capacity Felix Houphouet-Boigny Stadium, Abidjan, in the first quarter-final fixture of the competition.
