Again, a top ISWAP commander surrenders to troops
A top Commander of the Islamic State of the West Africa Province (ISWAP) has surrendered himself to the troops of the Multi-National Joint Task Force (MNJTF) following the operations on the fringes of the Lake Chad.
Zagazola Makama, a counter insurgency expert and security analyst in Lake Chad has made this revelation on his Twitter handle on Saturday.
Makama revealed that Mani, who was from Niger Republic, surrendered himself to troops in Damasak and Malam Fatori.
Sources have revealed that Makama supervised the activities of the terrorists, and ensured the availability of logistics supplies, tax and levies which were to be paid by fishermen and farmers in the Lake Chad.
According to Makama’s tweet, The 43-year-old suspect has made a confession that the ongoing operation by troops of Operation Hadin Kai and Operation Lake Sani prompted him to surrender.
“The suspects told troops that dozens of fighters had died while many have escaped due to the fear of being killed,” he said.
Makama, also explained that findings have shown that the suspect is a high ranking member of the terrorist group.
“The suspect is currently undergoing profiling in troops’ custody,” he added.
