A commercial bus driver has been macheted to death by a man identified as Akpa Lebechukwu in Anambra State.
It was gathered that the incident occurred at Okija Junction, Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State, where the driver who was returning from Lagos, and moving to Imo State parked to drop off some passengers.
The spokesperson of the Anambra State Police command, DSP Toochukwu Ikenga, while confirming the incident via a press release made available to newsmen said the man moved into the vehicle after the driver had dropped the passengers and macheted him.
The spokesperson said: “Today (Sunday) 18/9/2022 at about 12:05pm, police arrested one Akpa Lebechukwu ‘M’ 25yrs from Enugu State, and recovered one machete from him.
“The suspect attacked the driver of a commercial vehicle on transit from Lagos to Imo State at Okija junction, along Onitsha/Owerri Expressway.
“The victim parked to drop a passenger before Lebechukwu jumped into the vehicle and macheted the driver. The driver was rushed to the hospital before he was declared dead by a medical doctor on duty.”
The intention of the attacker was not clear, while his sanity has not been ascertained.
The spokesperson revealed that the Anambra State Police Commissioner has ordered the immediate movement of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department.
