After 12 years, Kwara United returns back to CAF competiton

Africa football governing body, CAF has confirmed Kwara United as the second team that will represent Nigeria in the CAF Confederation cup.

Recall that Kwara United, who had finished fourth on the final NPFL table with 58 points from 38 games joined third placed team,Remo Stars for the second tier of the CAF inter club competitons.

While the winner of the ongoing Aiteo Cup also known as Federation Cup was supposed to be the Country’s representative, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) decided to chose Kwara United in order to meet up with deadline for club registration for CAF inter-club competitons.

With the preliminary round draw scheduled to hold on Tuesday, August 9, the club will begin its journey in the continental competiton with the first round games both home and away billed for September 9-11 and 16-18.

Kwara United last engagement on the continent (WAFU Cup) was in the 2010/2011 season under Coach Kadiri Ikhana.

The club had in the 2020/2021 season missed the continental ticket by a whisker when it finished fourth on the log table. The then winner of Aiteo Cup, Bayelsa United stood in as the second representative in the Confederation cup.

While Kwara United and Remo Stars will be representing the country in the Confederation cup, reigning NPFL Champions, Rivers United and the runners up, Plateau United will be competing in the CAF Champions league.
