Super Eagles interim Boss, Austin Eguavoen has emerged as the Best Manager of the Group Stage games at the ongoing AFCON in Cameroon.
The gaffer has impressed many Nigerians after leading the Super Eagles to the second round of the tournament with a perfect record of three wins from all the group stage matches.
Nigeria secured Nine maximum points from a possible Nine to reach the round of 16, a feat which was first and last achieved by Eguavoen himself as the Manager in charge of the Eagles in the 2006 Nations Cup.
Also coming on the heels of his recognition are the reports of the NFF considering to permanent the tactician as the Super Eagles Coach.
His managerial skills and achievements at the ongoing AFCON have further fueled the conversation of how best Nigerian coaches could be handling the team, even while the NFF had already appointed a Portuguese Coach Jose Paseiro to take charge of the team after the African Mundial.
It is now unclear whether NFF would harmonize Paseiro’s contract in the wake of the Super Eagles’ impressive run under the auspices of Eguavoen.
Recall as the Technical Director of the NFF, Cerezo as he is fondly called was drafted in to take charge of the team last year December after the sacking of Coach Gernot Rohr.
Top sources in the NFF claimed that Eguavoen could retain his two roles, giving the ‘not too pressing engagements’ of the National team in a year.
Nigeria will face Carthage Eagles of Tunisia in the Round of 16 game billed for Sunday at 9 pm.
