AFRD: Fubara approves automatic jobs for children of fallen soldiers in Rivers

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has approved the immediate employment of children of fallen servicemen as part of the state’s commitment to honouring military sacrifices.

The governor gave the directive on Thursday at the Armed Forces Remembrance ceremony held at Government House, Port Harcourt, marking the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day.

Fubara said the move reflects the state government’s resolve to support the Armed Forces, other security agencies, and families of personnel who lost their lives in active service. He directed the Secretary to the State Government, Dr Benibo Anabraba, to ensure the prompt implementation of the employment directive.

“As part of our support, the secretary to the state government has been given a marching order to ensure that the employment promised by the state government for the children of our veterans is immediately attended to,” Fubara said. “This is our way of providing socio-economic support to their families.”

The governor assured that Rivers State would continue collaborating with military formations by providing logistical and welfare support to boost operational effectiveness.

He also acknowledged the sacrifices of Nigerian troops deployed across the country, particularly in the North-East against Boko Haram and other insurgent groups, as well as in the North-West and North-Central regions battling banditry and kidnapping, while noting that the ongoing security operations in the South-East and South-South, including efforts to curb pipeline vandalism, crude oil theft and maritime crimes.

Fubara also paid tribute to soldiers who lost their lives in the First and Second World Wars, the Nigerian Civil War, international peacekeeping missions and recent counter-insurgency operations, while further commending President Bola Tinubu for strengthening the military through improved welfare, modern equipment and enhanced internal security measures.

Earlier, Chairman of the Nigerian Legion, Rivers State chapter, Kuu Aminkipo Promise, praised the state government for its continued support, highlighting the governor’s ₦100 million donation to launch the 2026 Emblem Appeal Fund. He described the gesture as a major boost for veterans, widows and dependents of fallen heroes.
