The Super Eagles of Nigeria has been drawn in Group A of the Cote’d’Ivoire AFCON 2023 qualifiers.

The draw, which was conducted by African football legends, former South Africa defender Lucas Radebe and ex Côte d’Ivoire forward Solomon Kalou held in Johannesburg on Tuesday’s evening.

Eagles were drawn in Group A alongside Sierra leone, Burkina Faso, Guinea-Bissau and Sao Tome Principe.

Defending champions Senegal have been pooled in Group L where they will battle out with Benin, Mozambique and Rwanda.

Hosts Côte d’Ivoire are in Group H with Zambia, Comoros and Lesotho. Only one team will qualify from this group, alongside the hosts.

The top two teams from each group (Group A to L) will qualify for the tournament in Cote d’Ivoire in June-July, 2023.

The qualifiers will start in June 2022 with teams throwing in their aces to book a spot at the next African showpiece.

Recall that Nigeria failed to scale through to Round of 16 of the last AFCON played in Cameroon. The team lost 1 nil to the Carthage Eagles of Tunisia.

While a new Coach, possibly a foreigner is expected to lead the team into the tournament, Nigerians are keen to see their darling team redeeming their image, especially as they are yet to recover from the shock of the failure to qualify for the World Cup in Qatar.
