Killings: Resign now, Northern Elders tell Buhari The Informant247

Abuja-Kaduna train: We’re still negotiating with bandits – Presidency

The Federal Government has given assurance to Nigerians, relatives and friends of the kidnapped Abuja-Kaduna train attack victims, that the government was negotiating with the bandits to secure the safe release of the victims.

The spokesperson of President Muhammadu Buhari, Mallam Garba Shehu, made this narration on Channels TV’s “Politics Today”, on Friday.

The Informant247 had reported that kidnappers had attacked the train, kidnapped scores – killing nine persons, while 26 other persons sustained injuries.

The train service which was programmed to start operations on May 23, 2022, after necessary repairs have been done to the damaged tracks, has suddenly announced an indefinite postponement of service.

He said the government was aware of the pressure originating from the family members of the kidnapped, adding that, “of course this is expected. This acts as a pressure on one of the people involved in the discussion with the terrorists to ensure a safe release of those that have been held.”

He said the government disclosed that negotiations with bandits were ongoing, “although a bit difficult, but we hope that we return to normalcy.”
