Abibakr As-Siddiq Philanthropic Home hands over 20 solar-powered boreholes to communities in 4 states

Abibakr As-Siddiq Philanthropic Home (ASPH) has handed over 20 medium-depth solar-powered boreholes to communities in Kano, Nasarawa, Benue, and Oyo states, expanding access to clean and safe drinking water for thousands of residents.

The boreholes were delivered under Project OP-641 with funding from the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSrelief), the organisation said in a statement.

According to ASPH, the project targets underserved and vulnerable communities by providing sustainable water infrastructure powered by solar energy.

The newly commissioned facilities are located in Magadawa Kudu (Mariri), Ladanai, Tudun Makera, Gadan, and Tudun Fulani in Kano State; Igbeti, Igboho, Iseyin, Kishi, and Sepeteri in Oyo State; Abua Village in Tarka Local Government Area, Daudu Village in Guma LGA, Mechanic Village in Makurdi LGA, Ikpayongo Village in Gwer East LGA, and Gbende Village in Gwer West LGA of Benue State; as well as Angwan Jama’a in Keffi LGA, Layin Sarki in Toto LGA, Angwan Sadi in Kokona LGA, Angwan Bai in Nasarawa LGA, and Jijipe Community in Nasarawa State.

Each borehole is equipped with a solar-powered pumping system, elevated water storage tanks, and multiple water collection points to ensure a reliable supply of potable water throughout the year.

ASPH said the project is expected to improve access to clean water for households, schools, healthcare facilities, and surrounding communities, while helping to reduce the prevalence of waterborne diseases and improve hygiene and sanitation.

The organisation added that the initiative would also ease the burden on women and children, who often travel long distances in search of water, and contribute to healthier and more resilient communities.

Commenting on the completion of the project, the President of ASPH, Mallam Abdulrasaq Ibrahim Salman thanked KSrelief for its continued partnership in supporting humanitarian interventions across Nigeria.

“Access to safe drinking water is a fundamental human necessity and a cornerstone of sustainable development. Through our valued partnership with KSrelief, we have successfully delivered twenty solar-powered boreholes that will provide lasting benefits to communities across four Nigerian states. We remain committed to implementing impactful humanitarian programmes that promote dignity, health, and sustainable development,” the ASPH president said.

The organisation also commended state and local government authorities, traditional rulers, community leaders, technical teams, and beneficiary communities for their support during the implementation of the project.

ASPH said the facilities have been tested, commissioned, and formally handed over to their respective communities. It added that Community Water Management Committees have been established to oversee the operation, protection, and routine maintenance of the boreholes to ensure their sustainability.

The organisation reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, accountability, and the delivery of sustainable humanitarian and development programmes, while expressing its readiness to strengthen partnerships with KSrelief and other development partners to implement more life-changing interventions across Nigeria.
