9th Assembly: North Central Rejects Gbajabiamila’s Candidacy.

The North-central zone has allegedly rejected the candidature of Femi Gbajabiamila who is touted as the consensus candidate of the National APC leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and that of the party, the zone cited marginalization as their major reason, and alleged that the region is being schemed out of positions in the party.

Governors and political stakeholders in the state have allegedly thrown their weight behind one of the lawmakers from the zone to emerge as the Speaker. Mohammed Bago from Niger State, Idris Wase, the current Deputy Majority Leader from Plateau State and John Dyegh from Benue State are all in the race from North-central.

Bago’s candidacy from Niger state is currently gathering momentum as his state Governor has vowed to mobilise other governors from the zone and beyond to support his ambition.

The National Publicity Secretary of the party, Malam Lanre Issa-Onilu whilst reacting to the report that the APC has adopted Gbajabiamila as it’s official candidate said the information was false.

He said the party was yet to take a final decision on zoning of leadership offices of the House to the geopolitical zones. He said: “We have not come out as a party to say (that we have adopted Gbajabilamila) and it is not in anyone’s position to go and announce that.”
