7 Nigerians allegedly apprehended for cybercrime in Ghana

The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has apprehended seven Nigerians connected with alleged cyber criminal activities in Ghana.

The suspects were arrested following an intelligence received and a raid carried by the EOCO at the residence at Manhean, Obeyeyie in the Greater Accra Region on September 26, 2022.

The anti-crime agency, according to Ghanaweb made available a statement on Monday that no fewer than 21 persons, suspected to be victims of trafficking from Nigeria, regained their freedom during the raid.

“At the end of the exercise, 28 Nigerians suspected to be engaged in Prohibited Cyber Activities, were taken into custody.

“After our initial screening, 21 of the persons were determined to be victims of Human Trafficking from Nigeria to Ghana,” the official statement said.

The seven suspected cyber criminal have been remanded by an Accra Circuit Court.

They are under investigations and scheduled to reappear in court on October 17.

The suspected cyber criminals are to face a 24-count charge which border on assaults, human trafficking, and other crimes.
