A 32-year-old man, Samuel Akpan, was on Monday remanded in a correction facility over alleged molestation of a five-year-old girl.
He was remanded in a correctional centre on the order of Mararaba Upper Area Court in Nasarawa State.
Malam Mohammed Jibril, who presided over the matter directed that the defendant be remanded in correctional facility until November 23 to enable the court determine his condition of bail.
The defendant, who lives at Tudun Wada, Mararaba, Nasarawa State is standing trial for molestation of a minor girl.
He, has denied carrying out the crime.
Insp Hamen Donald, who’s the Prosecution Counsel, earlier informed the court that the complainant, Favour Basaki who’s residing at Mararaba brought the matter to the awareness of the “A” Division Police Station, Mararaba on September 30.
The Prosecution Counsel said the complainant, a neighbour to the defendant and the victim’s mother alleged that she has informed the defendant to take responsibility of care of her daughter (victim) when she travelled for the wedding of her sister.
He added that, on her return two weeks after, the complainant noticed that her daughter was sick and could not walk properly.
He revealed that the victim’s noticed that the defendant had sexually abused her daughter.
He added that the offence was in contravention of the provisions of Section 275 of the Penal Code.
