25 secondary school pupils abducted as bandits launch deadly attack on Kebbi community

No fewer than 25 students of the Government Girls’ Comprehensive Secondary School, GGCSS, in Maga, Danko-Wasagu Local Government Area have been abducted by the bandits, following a pre-dawn attack on the community which also resulted in the killing of a staff member.

The Kebbi State Police Command, while confirming the attack through its Public Relations Officer, CSP Nafiu Abubakar Kotarkoshi, said the gunmen, armed with sophisticated weapons, stormed the school at about 4:00 a.m., firing sporadically and forcing their way into the students’ hostels.

“The police tactical units deployed at the school engaged them in a gun duel,” CSP Abubakar said. “Unfortunately, the suspected bandits had already abducted 25 students to an unknown location.”

He confirmed that a staff member, Hassan Makuku, was shot dead, while another, Ali Shehu, sustained a gunshot injury to the right hand.

Following the attack, additional police tactical squads, military personnel, and local vigilantes were deployed to track the attackers, secure the area, and rescue the abducted students.

“They are currently combing the bandits’ routes and nearby forests to rescue the students and apprehend the perpetrators,” CSP Abubakar added.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Bello M. Sani, reassured the public of the command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property across Kebbi State. “We appeal to the public to remain calm, vigilant, and continue supporting security operations,” he said.
