21-year-old employee arraigned for stealing N1.7m

Samuel Thomas who is a  21 old man, was taken before an Ejigbo Magistrates’ Court in Lagos on Monday for allegedly stealing his employer’s products worth N1.7 million.

The defendant is on trial on a two-count accusation of conspiracy and theft brought by the police.

He entered a not guilty plea to the allegations.

According to the police prosecutor, Insp Benedict Aigbokhan, the defendant and others at large committed the crimes on Jan. 25 at Flow Precious firm, 7/9, NNPC Road, Ejigbo, Lagos.

According to him, the defendant took a three-inch liquid control flow metre valued at N600,000, a four-inch valley valued at N320,000, and six flanges valued at NN180,000.

A three-inch diesel water pump worth N600,000 was also reportedly stolen.

Aigbokhan stated that the things taken were valued at N1.7 million and belonged to one Mr Yekini Olutade, the company’s coordinator.

According to him, the offences violate Sections 287 and 411 of the Lagos State Criminal Law, 2015.

Mr E. O. Ogunkanmi, the Magistrate, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in the same amount.

He stipulated that the sureties be gainfully employed and provide proof of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

Ogunkanmi postponed the matter until February 28 for further consideration.
