2027: David Mark heads opposition coalition to seek registration for newly-formed political party ADA

In a strategic move ahead of the 2027 general elections, the National Opposition Coalition Group (NOCG), under the leadership of former Senate President David Mark, has officially submitted an application to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the registration of its newly established political party, the All Democratic Alliance (ADA).

This development was revealed after a pivotal meeting held in Abuja on May 6, 2025. The announcement was made in a statement dated May 19, co-signed by Rotimi Amaechi, the former Minister of Transport, who serves as the Chairman of the New Platform Committee (NPC), and Umar Ardo, its Secretary.

The NPC, composed of 15 dedicated members, was tasked with overseeing the formation of the party and has conducted several meetings, appointed sub-committees, and compiled reports leading to the resolution to officially create the ADA.

According to the statement, significant outcomes from the committee’s meeting on June 19, 2025, included the approval of the party’s logo, slogan, and motto, along with its manifesto and constitution.

Interim leadership has also been established, with Chief Akin A. Ricketts designated as Protem Chairman, and Abdullahi Musa Elayo serving as Protem National Secretary. The coalition has outlined plans for securing office accommodations, opening a bank account for party operations, and ensuring compliance with both internal regulations and the Electoral Act (2022).

Amid these developments, discussions are intensifying regarding a potential coalition that would include influential figures such as former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, 2023 presidential candidate Peter Obi, and former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, all aiming to challenge President Bola Tinubu in the upcoming elections.

A spokesperson for Atiku confirmed these talks, stating, “There have been ongoing discussions between Atiku Abubakar and some opposition leaders, including Peter Obi and Nasir El-Rufai.”

Despite the momentum among opposition factions, the ruling All Progressives Congress has asserted that any coalition against Tinubu is unlikely to succeed.
