2027: Belgore’s Candidacy Will Strengthen APC, 11 Groups Tell Stakeholders

An alliance of 11 support groups in Kwara State has endorsed the governorship ambition of former candidate, Bar. Mohammed Dele Belgore, SAN, ahead of the 2027 elections, saying his emergence would strengthen the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The groups, under the umbrella of Amalgamated MDB Support Groups, made this known on Saturday during a press conference in Ilorin.

They said Belgore’s track record, loyalty to the party, and consistent role in Kwara’s political evolution make him a strong contender to succeed Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.

The coalition listed its members to include Emirate Vision, MDB Solidarity Group, MDB Crew, Purple Ladies, ActionWomen, MDB Visionary Network, Campaign for Change, G12, Igbehinadun MDB Forum, and MDB Ambassadors.

Speaking at the briefing, the group said Belgore has remained a committed figure within the APC, recalling his role in the political movement that led to the current administration.

They particularly referenced his participation in the 2011 governorship race, describing it as a bold move that challenged the political status quo at the time.

According to them, Belgore also demonstrated party loyalty in 2018 when he stepped down his ambition to support AbdulRazaq, even before the latter emerged as the party’s candidate.

“That decision showed his commitment to party unity,” the group said, adding that he has remained supportive of the administration since then.

The coalition argued that Belgore enjoys support across the state and cuts across different political and social groups, which they believe would strengthen the APC ahead of the 2027 polls.

They added that his emergence as the party’s flag bearer could also reshape the political contest in the state.

The groups, however, urged APC stakeholders to consider his candidacy in the interest of party cohesion and continuity.
