2027: ADC launches free online membership portal, orders digital revalidation

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has unveiled a free nationwide online membership registration portal as part of its preparations for the 2027 general elections, directing both new and existing members to register and revalidate their details digitally.

In a statement issued on Sunday by its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the party said the new digital platform was introduced to comply with provisions of the Electoral Act 2026 and guidelines set by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The ADC explained that only members whose details are fully captured and verified on the party’s official digital register will be eligible to vote or contest in its primaries.

The development follows adjustments to the 2027 election timetable. Initially, INEC had fixed the Presidential and National Assembly elections for February 20, 2027, and the Governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections for March 6, 2027. However, concerns were raised by some Muslim stakeholders that the dates coincided with the Ramadan period.

Subsequently, the Nigerian Senate amended Clause 28 of the Electoral Act Amendment Bill, reducing the mandatory election notice period from 360 days to 300 days, enabling INEC to revise the schedule. The commission later shifted the Presidential and National Assembly elections to January 16, 2027, and the Governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections to February 6, 2027.

Under the revised timetable, political parties are required to submit a comprehensive digital membership register by April 2, 2026—a move some stakeholders believe could disadvantage opposition parties.

The ADC noted that it had already commenced its nationwide membership registration and revalidation exercise in Abuja last month, with manual registration continuing alongside the digital process.

According to the party, the new online portal, accessible at www.adcregistration.ng, is designed to simplify enrolment, remove barriers to participation, and ensure seamless and secure registration for Nigerians at home and in the diaspora.

It added that members previously registered on the party’s old platform must revalidate their information on the new portal, as additional mandatory data is required for full compliance with the Electoral Act and INEC guidelines.

The party also encouraged support groups and associations to take advantage of the online registration process, while reiterating its objections to aspects of the Electoral Act 2026 and the revised INEC timetable, which it said confer undue advantage on the ruling party.

Despite its reservations, the ADC reaffirmed its commitment to building what it described as a modern, inclusive, and citizen-driven political movement capable of delivering credible leadership and national development.
