Member representing Ifelodun/Offa/Oyun Federal Constituency, Hon Ismail Tijani, has thrown shades at Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, likening him to Abu Lahab, an uncle and opponent of Prophet Muhammad in Islamic history.
Tijani made the remarks on Wednesday at an event organised by The Otoge Progressives (TOP), the political movement that emerged from the aggrieved APC bloc formerly known as G15.
Drawing a parallel with the Prophet Muhammad’s migration from Makkah to Medina, the lawmaker said political developments in Kwara had similarly forced members of the coalition to seek alternative platforms ahead of the 2027 elections.
“Governor AbdulRazaq is Abu Lahab of Kwara. When the Prophet was frustrated in Makkah by the likes of Abu Lahab, he moved to Medina. We have Abu Lahab in Kwara too; we have to move to contest in PDP,” Tijani said.
The lawmaker also dismissed allegations against his political record, questioning the basis for describing some politicians as good and others as bad.
“Saliu Mustapha is not good. Sadiq is not good. This is not good, that is not good. Who else is good?” he asked.
He also spoke about his relationship with former Senate President Bukola Saraki, saying he had only met him twice before tensions emerged between them.
He attributed the beginning of the disagreement to his decision to visit Saraki to commiserate with him over the death of his mother-in-law.
The lawmaker further claimed that he defeated his opponents “massively” in previous political contests and alleged that some politicians who currently remain with AbdulRazaq were unhappy with him but lacked the freedom to leave.
He added that some development projects he wanted to undertake were frustrated by the state government.
“I asked them to repair roads, the governor stopped it. I wanted to build hospital, they stopped it. I said I wanted pavilion, they stopped it. A lot of other projects,” he said.
He accused AbdulRazaq of betraying people who had supported his rise to power, urging voters to remain focused on their interests ahead of the 2027 elections.
“He betrayed everyone that once stood with him. They will give you money. Collect their money and do the right thing,” Mustapha said.
The lawmaker also urged his supporters to vote for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and other PDP candidates in Kwara.
