The Kwara State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board has commenced the vaccination of 2,174 pilgrims from across the sixteen local government areas of the state at the Board’s premises today, Monday 28th April.
Executive Secretary of the Board, Alh Abdulsalam Abdulkadir, announced that the Saudi authorities have made it mandatory for pilgrims to be vaccinated 10 days prior to leaving Nigeria.
The vaccines provided are aimed at protecting pilgrims against oral polio, yellow fever, and influenza. He also advised that any side effects should be reported promptly to medical professionals.
Abdulkadir emphasized that the vaccinations will help strengthen the pilgrims’ immune systems ahead of their pilgrimage, advising them to keep their yellow cards safe.
The Chairman of the Board, Prof Jimba Moshood, urged all intending pilgrims for Hajj 2025 to fully cooperate with health officials and participate in the vaccination process to guard against meningitis, oral polio, and yellow fever, ensuring they are adequately protected for their sacred journey.
Mr. Taiwo Afolabi, Director of Port Health at the Kwara State Primary Health Care, administered the first dose of the vaccine to a pilgrim and reaffirmed the Board’s commitment to a successful vaccination campaign.
